What
is GROWW? |
GROWW
is a 501c Corporation developed to provide grief recovery support
in the online world. |
|
What
does "GROWW" mean? |
GROWW
is an acronym for "Grief Recovery Online (founded by) Widows
& Widowers," but a support community for all bereaved.
|
| Where
did the Name come from? |
The
name comes from the founders of the company, widows and widowers,
who found one another in chat rooms on America Online. See also
our History page. |
| What
is the purpose of GROWW? |
GROWW
was formed to provide support resources for the grieving community.
Although originally begun for the widowed, it became apparent
that the need for support for ALL grievers was lacking. |
| How
does GROWW provide this support? |
GROWW
provides support on a number of different levels. A proprietary
web site link to a variety of other support resources for additional
complementary support. The Website also provides gateways to
organizations or agencies which may provide assistance to the
bereaved, such as the Social Security Administration, or local
medical or hospice associations. The site will also provide
bulletin board service and a facility for message as well as
a "locator" service to direct individuals to appropriate
services and chat areas. |
| What
are "chat areas"? |
Chat
areas are those "rooms" where a number of members
may share their experience, hope and strength with peers. Chat
areas are interactive sites which provide the facility for the
bereaved to share their common bond and to grow through the
grieving process. |
| What
are the benefits of "chat areas"? |
The
grieving cycle is a difficult and trying ordeal. Conversation
and verbalization are significant factors in "successful"
grieving. The combination of the online anonymity and interaction
with grievers of like experience enhances the ability of the
griever to relate and thus, to grow through the grief. |
| Is
there any downside to "chat"? |
Yes,
especially online, and most especially, to an individual raw
with pain, such as a widow(er). Online personae are not always
what they seem to be and starvation for closeness can lead clients
astray, even into danger. One of the objectives of GROWW is
to provide the member with guidelines and instruction for safe
relationship and engagement. Room monitoring and auditing will
be utilized to provide as safe an area as possible. Information
gathering and dissemination of important data will be provided
to the community. |
